Biography

Dr. Yin received his B.Sc. degree in Mathematics (Information Science stream), B.Eng. degree in Information Engineering (Telecommunications stream and Information Processing stream) and Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2013, 2014 and 2019 respectively. He also minored in Computer Science with his B.Sc. degree.

He is now a lecturer at the Department of Information Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also affiliated to Chung Chi College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In the college, he is currently the member of the Chung Chi College Staff Club Executive Committee, the member of the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee, and the convenor of the Orchid Lodge Management Task Group. During 2021-2022, he was a research engineer at n-hop technologies Limited and an honorary postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Network Coding, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was with the same institute as a postdoctoral fellow during 2019-2021 and a research assistant during 2014-2015. He was a resident tutor of the CW Chu College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong during 2019-2021. During his Ph.D. study, he was a teaching assistant who focused on teaching solid foundation of computer programming. He received the Exemplary Teaching Award Runner Up from the Department of Information Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2024, and the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award from the same department twice in 2017 and 2019 respectively. He was the secretary of the 33rd Computer Science Society, The Student Union of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2011. He also joined the e-learning team of the Information Technology Services Centre, The Chinese University of Hong Kong as a Flash application developer during the academic year 2010-11.

His main research interest lies in the field of network coding. Besides that, he is also interested in computer and network systems, source coding, and recreational mathematics.
